Soon to be traveling in our programs, are "Noah" the Greenwing Macaw, who came to us from a bird rescue here in New England... and an AWESOME Brazilian Porcupine!! He's cute, but not very cuddly :)
The Summer of 2008 was an amazing summer with regard to the popularity of our programming to the libraries of NH!
After visiting 33 libraries during the 2007 summer season, we were contacted that fall to put something special together for the 2008 CHILIS SRP theme "G'Day for Reading". Agreeing to bring on-board captive-bred wallabies from other zoos & sanctuaries in the United States 2 years in advance of our plans... we created the program known as Creatures Down Under.
Wildlife Encounters Zoo was then honored to be the first live-animal related program EVER to be considered and approved for inclusion on the NH Kids, Books & Arts Roster, which makes available federal and state grant support to bring the highest-level of professional enrichment programming to libraries & communities in need of assistance. Derek and Audra toured 86 NH Libraries this summer, with almost all of them experiencing this Australia-themed educational presentation! Check our "Customers Howl" feedback section to see what some of the librarians had to say!
In addition, Wildlife Encounters Zoo - functioning as a not-for-profit educational entity... is donating $10 on behalf of every NH library that hosted the Creatures Down Under to Steve Irwin's Wildlife Warriors Conservation Fund!
Touring the state with a program custom-designed for the libraries summer reading camp, called "Creatures Down Under". COME SEE THE WALLABIES! (please check that your library has opend the program to the public)
Check our "Appearances Page" or the link above for more details and other places we will be!
Celebrate "National Wildlife Week" - April 19 - 27th, 2008!
Help us combat our own Nature Deficit Disorder... take your kids to the park, or for a hike! Even better - join us, NH Audubon, Squam Lakes NSC and much more at NH Fish & Game Headquarters in Concord on April 26th for Discover Wild NH Day! Live animal presentations, a scavanger hunt, and dozens of other activities and attractions!
Please be aware! Unknown disease currently called White-nose Syndrome killing massive numbers of bats - this could be a major ecological issue here in the Northeast. Here is a link to a brief video from Massachussetts.
